San Diego ports and Old Town
San Diego coastline - from Shelter Island Mural in Old Town, San Diego
Sunday the 14th of July we looked around the seaside areas of San Diego, and Old Town, which is a historical reproduction (with lots of shops) of the original settlement.
Whilst driving around the seaside we saw these bizzare tour "truck" which we watched drive straight into the sea and then motor around the harbour. Later on we saw the exact same vehicles driving through the city! They had a propeller at the back, were sort of boat shaped but were quite tall and the people on board had a great view.
We drove over this huge bridge to Coronado Island, which is very nice - tourist spot, but lots of families sitting around with their barbeque grills (hot coals - not hot plate!) having a good time. Jo took a great panorama of the bridge - the resulting image was about 6000pixels wide. She found some nice panorama stitching programs on the net, but hasn't decided if/which she wants to buy.

We're going to have to go back to San Diego in the winter when there wont be a persistent fog/haze and one will actually be able to take a proper photo of the cityscape. Oh, and we discovered that a cheap 4 star hotel on hotwire.com is only a good deal if one doesn't nearly get charged $22 for parking!! We felt seriously out of place in this glitzy historic hotel.
